Influential Kandahar police chief Abdul Raziq martyred in terrorist attack
AT-KABUL: Influential and powerful police commander of southern Kandahar province, General Abdul Raziq and provincial intelligence chief, General Mumin were martyred and provincial governor along with Zonal police chief were injured in a terrorist attack today afternoon in Kandahar.
The terrorist attack took place late today afternoon around 3:30pm in Kandahar city, after security and provincial officials including General Raziq were leaving a security meeting in the governor house.
A terrorist, who had infiltrated ranks of the security forces and was serving as bodyguard of Kandahar governor opened fire on General Raziq and seriously injured him before to lose his life due to deep injuries, Deputy Interior Minister, General Akhtar Muhammad Ibrahimi told a presser in Kabul.
The attacker was killed in returning fire by the security forces.
Kandahar governor, Zalmai Wisa and commander for the 404 Maiwand Police Zone, General Nabi Elham were injured in the attack.
President Ashraf Ghani after the incident convened extraordinary military meeting and assigned a delegation under the leadership of NDS chief, Masum Stanekzai to travel to Kandahar for investigation of the incident.
Security forces in Kandahar city were on high alert after the attack and commando forces were on way to deal with the situation, president said in his speech to the nation.
General Raziq was famous for his being hard toward the terrorists and was the main player to keep the Taliban and other terrorist groups away from Kandahar.
Under his security leadership, Kandahar which was being called as birthplace of the Taliban was turned to a relatively secure and calm province.
