Iran backs Afghan peace process

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, Hassan Qashqavi, on Wednesday put his country’s weight behind Afghan-owned and Afghan-led peace and reconciliation process.

“We expect further stability and security in Afghanistan following peace talks with the insurgent outfits,” he said.

“We want peace and stability in Afghanistan. We have interest in any kind of Afghan-led efforts that lead to security and stability in the country,” TOLOnews quoted him. He said this after meeting with Foreign Ministry officials here in Kabul.

Minister of Refugees and Repatriation Hussain Alami Balkhi during meeting with Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi the other day held negotiations on the issues faced by Afghan refugees living in Iran. About three million Afghans are currently living in the neighboring country.
