Joint military drills kill 24 insurgents

AT News Report-KABUL: At least 24 militants have been killed and 43 others received injuries in multiple extensive military crackdowns conducted by the Afghan security forces across the country in the past 24 hours, security official said on Sunday.

In a press release issued here, the Ministry of Defense (MoD), said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) operatives conducted joint operations against insurgents in different areas of Nangarhar, Kapisa, Khost, Logar, Paktia, Kandahar, Urzgan, Zabul, Herat, Farah, Badghis, Ghor, Faryab, Kunduz, Baghlan and Helmand provinces, in which 24 insurgents were killed and 43 others wounded.

The Afghan National Defense and Security Forces shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations, 15 Taliban fighters were killed, 27 wounded and two stronghold with weapons and ammunition destroyed in Khas Urzgan district and Trinkot center of Urzgan province–four insurgents were killed and three others wounded in Zurmat Gardiz highway, three militants were killed and six others wounded in Qala-e-Zal district of Kunduz province.

In similar operation, one insurgent killed and two others wounded in Doshi district of Baghlan, one rebel was killed and two others wounded in Grishk district of Helmand and three militants were wounded in Mizan district of Zabul province.

In past 24 hours, 20 planed clearing operations, and 68 Special Forces operations conducted in 14 provinces; also, Air Forces conducted 68 aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army including two strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.

ANA also discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition belonging to the militants.

ANA as the nation’s defense forces have always stand firm and ready for rendering sacrifice in a bid to bring lasting peace and security to the people and are determined to eradicate terror groups in Afghanistan.
