Kabul-Dushanbe to discuss trade, economic ties

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Businessmen from Afghanistan and Tajikistan will discuss trade opportunities in a round table in Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan today (Tuesday) August 16, the Chamber of Commerce of Tajikistan said.

The round table meet up aims at development of trade ties between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, AKIpress reported.

Trade turnover between Kabul and Dushanbe in the first half of this year fell by 43.5 percent and amounted to $31 million.

Currently, the National Unity Government is looking toward business opportunities and making efforts to improve the already fragile economy of the country.

Recently, Afghanistan officially became a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO), and the country is the 164th member of this organization.

The membership is very important as it gives the opportunity to bring reforms in the trade sector, it is also very important for business and transit.

Furthermore, it would help Afghanistan strengthen its rule of law, establish transparency and lay the foundation for healthy economic growth.
