Kabul, Moscow relations growing

KABUL: Deputy Foreign Minister Mr. Idrees Zaman met with the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Kabul, Mr. Alexander Mantetsky, where they discussed and exchanged views on the growing relations between the two countries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

“Joint counter-narcotics efforts, Consultative Loya Jirga on Peace which is due to be held soon in Kabul, the Peace Process and Intra-Afghan Dialogue, Deputy Foreign Minister’s visit to Romania and political consultations between the two countries, dynamics of Afghanistan’s acquiring membership in the SCO, International Security Conference currently ongoing in Moscow, and political situation of the country and the region were discussed during meeting.

Moreover, Moscow will host a trilateral meeting on the Afghan peace within the next two days between Russia, China and the United States, the Russian Embassy in Kabul said in a statement on Tuesday.

The meeting will be held at special representatives’ level in Moscow on April 25, the statement said.

The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad, who has started his sixth multi-nation trip on Afghan peace, will also attend the meeting, the statement said.
