Kabul Taxi: NDS grills Daily Etilaat Roz editor

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Editor-in-chief of Daily Etilaat Roz Zaki Daryabi says he has been summoned by the National Directorate of Security (NDS) on charges of administering ‘Kabul Taxi’ – a Facebook page that posts comments on political issues, corruption and other issues in the country.

On Sunday, Daily Etilaat Roz quoted Daryabi, as saying that the attempt was taken after the order of National Security Advisor, Mohammad Hanif Atmar.

According to him, Atmar had raised the issue at a National Security Council (NSC) meeting and accused Daryabi for administering the Facebook page.

“The result of the NSC session was to summon me at the NDS office and investigate the issue. I went to the organization and answered their questions for hours,” said Daryabi, as quoted by Daily Etilaat Roz.

“At the end of session, there was no evidence that show I am carrying on the Facebook page,” he added. “I reiterate that the page is not mine, and I want to wish success for admin of ‘Kabul Taxi’. But my word to the NDS will be put for tomorrow. I will have some words and hellos for Mr. Atmar in Daily Etilaat Roz for the next day.”

More than 13,000 people have “liked” Kabul Taxi which contains criticism on current issues of Afghanistan.

Afghanistan’s Journalists Association has condemned summoning of Daily Etilaat Roz editor-in-chief and said it was against media law, and that it is a step towards limiting activities of media outlets in the country.

The association has urged the president to support freedom of speech as he pledged during his election campaigns.
