The Deputy Foreign Minister, Hekmat Khalil Karzai, in a meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General’s Deputy Special Representative for Afghanistan, said that a summit of defense ministers of the regional countries will be held in Kabul. In the meantime, spokesman for the Ministry of Defense (MoD) Dawlat Waziri said that the meeting is aimed at attracting support of regional countries in war against terrorism and militancy.

“Afghanistan is currently in the front line of war against terrorism in the region. Thus, the regional countries should lend their support to Afghanistan to root out the menace,” Radio Azadi quoted Waziri as saying.

Muhebullah Sharif, a political analyst said that the regional countries should build up pressure on Pakistan to restrain from support to militant groups. “Those countries, which have influence on Pakistan, should be convinced to put pressure on Islamabad to stop supporting militancy in Afghanistan,” he added.

He said that Kabul should explore ways to put end to Pakistan’s interventions in its internal affairs.
