AT News Report-KABUL: After the militant Taliban reciprocated an Afghan government’s cease-fire offer, former president Hamid Karzai has welcomed a Taliban’s temporary truce to be effective during the days of Eid al Fitr.
He declared his full support to this move, hoping an extension of this ceasefire would pave the grounds of peace negotiations and ultimate reconciliation, so that the countrymen would live in peace and solidarity.
Last Thursday, Ashraf Ghani said Afghan forces would cease attacking against Taliban in pursuit of spurring a stuttering peace process and in adherence to a religious edict of clerics who had earlier proclaimed suicide attacks forbidden and rendered sacrifices.
The militant movement has ordered its commanders and comrades to cease fighting against Afghan defense forces for a temporary period of three days coinciding with Eid al-Fitr celebration at the end of Ramadan. This truce dictates a halt to offensive operations but involves defense in case of raids. This dictation excludes foreign troops and militant operations will continue against foreigners.
