KABUL: Militants attacked the American University of Afghanistan on Wednesday night in the country’s capital city, an official said without giving further details.
Some sources said that a suicide bomber donated explosives-packed vest and later insurgents entered into the university. Gunfight was continued in the premises of the university till compilation of this news report. According to initial reports, five people were injured in the attack.
Head of the university Dr. Sharif Faiz confirmed to Afghanistan Times that some militants entered into the American University of Afghanistan. “We don’t know about exact casualties as all roads leading to the university are closed,” he said.
Another official said that following explosion, suicide bombers entered into the American University and some students were trapped inside the university compound.
Massoud Hossaini, a photographer for the Associated Press, in a tweet said that he was trapped inside.
“Help, we are stuck inside American University of Afghanistan and shooting followed by explosion this maybe my last tweet,” he tweeted.
Security forces are not commenting on the attack, but according to eye-witnesses gun firings could be heard around the university.
There is no exact figures regarding casualties of civilians and also there is no information about number of militants who attacked the university.
