Miller sees no winners in Afghan war

KABUL: The United States top military officer in Afghanistan has said that no party will win the Afghan war, a statement that is apparently supporting his civil colleagues who are in a hurry to end Washington’s longest war without a result for both Kabul and Washington.

General Scott Miller, who leads 14,000 US troops and some 6,000 soldiers from other NATO member states deployed in the war-torn country, has told the CBS news channel that neither the US nor Taliban could win the ongoing war.

Miller has stressed that the Afghan problem will be resolved through political ways and dialogues, because “the political resolve is the best option”.

He rejected that Afghanistan could be possibly used again by terrorist groups once the war ends.

The remarks come as Taliban members and politicians from Kabul who held a two-day negotiation in Russia, are optimistic to a political solution.
