Ministers-designate being introduced to WJ today

KABUL: Second vice-president Sarwar Danish is scheduled to introduce ministers-designate for the remaining 16 cabinet seats to the Wolesi Jirga (WJ) today (Wednesday) for a vote of confidence, an official said.

Wolesi Jirga Secretary Abdul Raouf Inaami said that the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry would share the particulars of the cabinet nominees with the Wolesi Jirga for review.

The ministers-designate would explain their plans and programs to the Jirga, he said, adding the lawmakers would vote the cabinet candidates.

President Ashraf Ghani announced the cabinet 16 picks on March 22 but without any name for the ministry of defense.

Humayun Rasa, Abdul Bari Jehani and Asadullah Zamir have been named as ministers-designate for commerce and industry, information and culture and agriculture respectively.

Gulab Mangal had been nominated as minister-designate for tribal and border affairs, Eng. Mohammad Baleegh minister-designate for public works and Abdul Sattar Murad as minister-designate for economy.

Dr. Mohammadullah Batash has been picked as minister-designate transport and aviation, Asadullah Hanif Balkhi for education and Syed Mansoor Naderi for urban development.

Similarly, Dr. Abdul Baseer Anwar is Ghani’s choice for the ministry of justice, Abdul Raziq Wahidi for ministry of communications, Dilbar Nazari for women’s affairs ministry and Salamat Azimi for counternarcotics.

Dr. Farida Momand has been named as minister-designate for higher education, Dr. Nasrin Oryakhel minister-designate for labour and social affairs and Ali Ahmad Osmani for water and energy.

Of the 24 ministers Ghani had sent to the parliament two months back, only eight of them secured vote of confidence along with the new spymaster. (PAN)
