MoI orders police to arrest perpetrators of student hanging

AT-KABUL: The ministry of interior (MoI) Sunday condemned publicly hanging of a university student in strong terms and ordered the Wardak police to arrest perpetrators.

The victim was identified as Faizul Rahman, who was reportedly on his way to meet his family when he was captured by Taliban. He was hanged to death in accusation of involvement in the assassination of a senior Taliban official.

Provincial governor spokesman Abdul Rahman Mangal confirmed the incident, saying “Faizul Rahaman was a student in Kabul Polytechnic University. The Taliban captured him from Sayed Abad district Thursday and hanged him in Sewaka village of Chak district on Friday.”

He added that Taliban has killed the student in accusation of assassinating a Haqqani Network militant named Dr. Mirwais few days ago.

The official called the accusation baseless, adding the student had no relation with government either.

Separately, the national police and the national army in joint clearance operations, cleared Gizab district of Uruzgun province from the armed Taliban, ministry of interior said Sunday.

“Taliban insurgents suffered the heaviest casualties during the operations,” ministry said in a statement.

No soldiers and civilians were harmed during the operations.
