By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The Counter Narcotics Department of Ministry of Interior on Tuesday said that Counter Narcotic Police (CNP) have discovered and confiscated over 649 tons of narcotics in the 1395 solar year, which shows an 108 percent increase in seizure.
“The CNP has discovered and seized 649.461 tons of different narcotics, alcoholic beverages and chemical precursors in the past solar year (1395), which showed 108 percent increase than previous year,” said Deputy Minister of Interior for Counter Narcotics, Baz Mohammad Ahmadi.
In previous year (1394), the CNP had discovered and seized over 311 tons of narcotics across the country.
Ahmadi said that anti-drug operations had increased by 65 percent in the past one year, through which 2,683 drug traffickers arrested across the country.
“Out of 2,683 drug runners, 525 big, 586 at middle level and 1,546 small-level smugglers, who were arrested during anti-drug crackdown,” he added.
20 police, 17 army soldiers and eight foreign nationals were among arrested smugglers, he noted.
He elaborated that 67 women, who involved in drug trafficking were arrested as well
He said that 15 leaders of Narcotics’ Mafia Network were also arrested during past one year.
864 smugglers were arrested in Kabul, where out of 185 drug traffickers were arrested in Hamid Karzai international airport, he mentioned.
He stated that 71.492 tons opium, 3.542 tons heroin, 62.768 tons morphine, 279.940 tons hashish, 115.899 tons chemical precursors, 5826 K-tablets discovered and seized during operation which reveal significant achievement in the past one year.
Some 121 heroin laboratories and factories have been destroyed during crackdowns throughout the country, he asserted.
The CNP also seized 246 weapons, 436 wireless and 457 vehicles during operations, he claimed.

Deputy Minister said that Narcotic is a good financial resource for Taliban, adding that 26 Taliban arrested in connection to the smuggling of narcotics in the country.
Mostly narcotics smuggling and cultivating in insecure areas under Taliban control, he underlined.
