Pakistan beat Afghanistan
KABUL: Pakistan recorded a massive 151-run victory over Afghanistan to qualify for the final of the under-19 Asia Cup cricket tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia’s capital, an official said on Thursday.
Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat in the 50 overs game, with the side putting a handsome target of 297 runs on the scorecard with seven wickets in hand, the Afghan under-19 team’s manager, Sher Agha Hamkar, told Pajhwok over the telephone.
Aftab Alam, Shabir Noori and Sharfuddin obtained one wicket apiece, he said, adding none of the Afghan batsman could make a substantial contribution in response. Only Mohibullah Pak was the major contributor, making 41 runs. The Afghanistan bating line-up collapsed in the 40th over for 145 runs, Hamkar said.
Afghanistan on Tuesday stormed into the semifinals after defeating Bangladesh by seven wickets. Placed in group B along with Bangladesh, Qatar and Sri Lanka, Afghanistan had also won against Qatar, but tasted defeat at the hands of Sri Lanka.
India will take on Sari Lanka in the semifinals on Friday and the winners will face Pakistan in the final scheduled to take place on July 1.__PAN
