Uniformed gunmen attack ISAF patrol in Herat
KABUL/HERAT CITY: Two uniformed men opened fire at a joint Afghan-ISAF patrol in the western province of Herat, but there were no casualties, officials and the alliance said on Tuesday.
The latest insider attack took place on Monday in the Kurkh district, the NATO-led troops said.
“We are looking into reports that claim the attack has been carried out by members of the Afghan National Security Forces," an ISAF statement said, promising updates once the incident was investigated, if appropriate. A local official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the gun attack involved an Afghan National Army(ANA) soldier who sprayed bullets on Spanish soldiers in the Ban Sabzak area. He said the troops stayed safe. The 207th Zafar Military Corpse spokesman, Najibullah Najibi, however, said there was no ANA solider in the area at the time of the attack.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said two Afghan soldiers loyal to them attacked US troops in the Kurkh area, killing four.
The attackers, hailing from Jalalabad, Nangarhar's capital, had returned to the rebel ranks after the assault, he added. (PAN)
