Naomi captures Diana's look and mannerism
When Naomi Watts was given the part of Princess Diana in an upcoming biopic, she insisted she looked nothing like the tragic royal.
But then the actress hadn’t reckoned on the magic of the make-up artists. Now on-set pictures show that Miss Watts, 43, has fully captured Diana’s look and mannerisms for the movie about the last two years of the princess’s life. The film, Caught In Flight, is understood to focus on Diana’s relationship with heart surgeon Dr Hasnat Khan and her time with Dodi Fayed. It will also include her death at 36 in a car crash in a Paris tunnel in 1997 with Dodi.
Miss Watts, who has starred in 21 Grams and King Kong, has admitted she is ‘terrified’ of playing the part of the princess. She said: ‘I’m a great admirer of Princess Diana but I look in the mirror and can’t see I have any resemblance.’
Miss Watts moved to Kensington to prepare for the role and is said to have visited Diana’s favourite places to get into character.
The film is being made by acclaimed German director Oliver Hirschbiegel, who said Miss Watts embodied ‘the warmth, humanity and empathy’ of Diana.
She bears a striking similarity to the princess, pictured here in 1997
