4 of a family drown as car falls into river
PUL-I-KHUMRI: Four members of a family drowned while two others were rescued after the vehicle they were travelling in plunged into a river in northern Baghlan province on Tuesday, an official said.
The accident happened at around 11 am in the Boghabi area of Pul-i-Khumri, where a Corolla car carrying the six people fell into the river, the traffic head, Col. Syed Mehboob Sadat, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said two men managed to rescue themselves but another man, two women and a child had been missing. While blaming the accident on reckless driving, he said rescuers had been unable to trace the four people due to rough waters.
One of the survivors, Najibullah, said: "Along with my wife, child, parents and a brother, I was on my way from Kabul to Takhar. Suddenly, our vehicle plunged into the river. My brother and I managed to rescue ourselves.''--(PAN)
