Interior Ministry seeks public support for Helmand security
KABUL: The interior ministry has urged people from all walks of life to help security forces tackle militancy and ward off any threats to the government in southern Helmand province.
During a visit to Lashkargah on Monday, Brig. Gen. Bismillah Mohammadi met Governor Gulab Mangal, hundreds of tribal leaders, religious scholars and members of the provincial council on how to improve security in the province.
“The purpose of my travel to Helmand is to evaluate the security situation, the capability of police and other forces and seek public support for the security personnel in Helmand,” a statement from the governor’s house quoted Mohammadi as saying.
“As we approach the third phase of security transition, we should try to enhance the capacity of police and be able to protect our confident security forces without help from foreign forces,” added the minister.
The minister also met provincial police chief Major General Abdul Nabi Alham.--(PAN)
