Embroidery training course for women begins
HERAT CITY: A five-month embroidery training course began in the Ghorian district of western Herat province on Tuesday, the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development said.
Part of the National Area-Based Development Programme of the ministry, the $31,354 project, being funded by European Union (EU), will benefit 210 individuals. Thirty women are taking part in the course.
“Women can play an important role in the development of the rural economy which, in turn, will help restore security, because one reason for the insurgency is joblessness and poverty,” the Ghorian district chief said.
Abdul Nasir told the inaugural ceremony that the project would create job opportunities for women family heads. “The trained women can then train others,” he added.
Rural Rehabilitation Director Aqa Mohammad Siddiqui, Regional Manager of NABDP/MRRD Eng. Muhammad Sakhi Alami and others participated in the inaugural ceremony.
Each trainee is being paid two dollars a day. On the completion of the training course, the participants will be given embroidery machines and other tools to continue the business at homes.--(PAN)
