Night raids key to improve security in Kandahar

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The Afghan National Army, National Directorate of Security operatives and national and local police conducted several night raids in different parts of Kandahar province, resulting in improving of security situation in the province, provincial officials said Saturday.

They conducted these night raids in Reg village of Pajwai district, an area used by the militants to cross to Maiwand and Zherai districts, destroying their hideouts and reduced their activities there.

Acting Police Chief of the Pajwai district, Hazrat Wali termed nigh raids significant to eliminate Taliban militants. “Night raids can also play key role in weakening Taliban.”

He added that they have devised a strategy to target Taliban convey in their next night raid.

Security forces who are planning to carry more raids, said that such night raids left huge casualties to the Taliban, terming the raids vital in fight against insurgents.

“We carried out a night raid and targeted a Taliban’s convey that wanted to travel to Zheray district. The militants suffered heavy losses in this operation,” Tolo News quoted Ahamdullah an army solider, as saying.

Since the security forces have conducted few night raids, security situation in Pajwai has improved, said Gul Ahmad, a provincial police force member.

“Night operations are very good to eliminate militants. Taliban have lost their power and security has improved,” he said.

Security forces in Kandahar make all out efforts to maintain security, as recently NDS personnel shot dead a suicide bomber.

The NDS said that its operatives managed to gun down a suicide bomber in the PD 5 near the provincial police office where the bomber planned to detonate his explosives near the police office.

By killing the bomber, NDS operatives prevented a bloody incident.

Furthermore, NDS said that their operatives arrested 19 rebels and bust four terrorist network through operations in the province.

Seven pistols, one landmine, 200kg of explosives with some other military equipment discovered and confiscated by intelligence force, statement from NDS said in that time.

The insurgents planned to conduct terrorist activities in different parts of Kandahar.
