NSA Doval finds faults with Pak-Afghan spy agencies’ deal

National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Friday said that Pakistan’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) deal with Afghanistan’s National Directorate of Security (NDS) was based on wrong assumptions.

“What Pakistan wanted was to take assurance and pressurize Afghanistan that they will not allow their territory to be used for any security related work by India. That is the crux of it. This is based on a faulty assumption that India probably uses Afghan soil or Afghan nationals for its security purposes,” Doval told the media here.

The ISI and NDS had earlier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for ‘intelligence sharing and complimentary and coordinated intelligence operations’.

The announcement followed a visit by the Pakistan intelligence chief, Chief of Army Staff and the Prime Minister to Kabul last week.

Talking about a Land Boundary Agreement with Bangladesh, Doval said the two governments have agreed on the conditionalities needed for transfer of people.

“Deliberations have been done on both sides and the revenue officials of the two countries have met and finalised it. Next week, revenue officials are meeting again. As far as transfer of people are concerned, there is an agreed principle between the two countries. I don’t think there are any problems about that,” said Doval.

“On rehabilitation, if required, people will be rehabilitated if they want to come to India as long as they meet the conditions,” he added. (ANI)
