Pact inked to implement 18 development projects

AT-KABUL: Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MoRRD) on Saturday signed agreement with the Development Council to implement 18 development projects in different provinces across the country.The projects encompass reconstruction of irrigation canals and irrigation system at a cost 42 million Afs.

According to a statement, Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Mujeeb-U-Rahman Karimi said that reconstruction of canals and irrigation system, which is part of water management, is the priority project for the government and MoRRD.

“Unfortunately irrigation system like other infrastructures had been destroyed during the decades of war,” he said.

Based on a survey have been conducted in 2004, close to 36 percent of water canals were completely destroyed and some other were partly destroyed, he added.

He said that the ministry had established a department for reconstruction of canals and irrigation system.

According presidential decree 3400 water canals must be survey and reconstruct in next five year, he noted.

Minister said that till now 106 water canals were surveyed and designed and 36 canals is in operational phase, which its contracts will be signed soon.

The 18 project, which signed today, will be implemented with 10 percent share of people and through the projects job opportunity will be created for 64000 people.
