Pakistan parliament speaker due to visit Kabul today

KABUL: Asad Qaiser, Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan is due to pay an official visit to Kabul along with a group of the Pakistani politicians and members of parliament, according to media report.

Qaiser will meet President Ghani and other Afghan officials to discuss the ongoing peace efforts in Afghanistan.

Mohammad Sadiq, Pakistan Special Envoy for Afghanistan confirmed the reports, saying he would come to Kabul today (Thursday).

Sadiq hoped that Qaiser’s three-day visit improve ties between Kabul and Islamabad.

Officials in Islamabad have said that Qaiser would encourage Pakistani officials to be honest in cooperation with Afghan issues.

Preparations have been taken in Kabul to welcome Pakistan’s parliament delegation with the two countries’ flags hoisting along the road to parliament building in Darul Aman neighborhood in the southwest of thee city.

Kabul’s walls have been already decorated with Qaiser’s portraits.

Afghan officials and politicians such as Abdullah Abdullah, Rahman Rahmani, Karim Khalili, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar and Wali Massoud visited Islamabad in the past few months.
