‘Peace talks will falter, if Kabul sidelined’

AT-PESHAWAR: Nationalist Awami National Party President Asfandyar Wali Khan has made it clear that without participation of Afghanistan government no one can make fruitful the ongoing peace process or get resolve the long standing conflict through peaceful and political means.

“Sidelining the Afghan government in ongoing peace process is in fact aimed at continuation of war and hostilities in that already war devastated country,” Asfandyar Wali Khan remarked while talking to Afghanistan Peace Commission head Muhammad Omar Daudzai at Wali Bagh Charsada on Wednesday. Omar Daudzai leading a high level delegation visiting Pakistan as a special envoy to President Ashraf Ghani, earlier held detail talks with Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi at Islamabad.

Beside others Atif Mashal Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Pakistan, ANP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary General Sardar Hussain Babak and Deputy Secretary General Aimal Wali Khan were also present on the occasion.  

Omar Daudzai and his team conveyed a message of good well gesture message of President Ashraf Ghani to ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan.

During detail meeting Asfandyar Wali Khan was briefed by Omar Daudzai about current situation of Afghanistan and ongoing peace efforts. In this respect, Daudzai has informed about Afghanistan firm stance on peace and reconciliation and for the purpose is welcoming talks with the opposition Taliban leaders.

In response, Asfandyar Wali Khan recalled that his party since a long favouring negotiated resolution to Afghan conflict and supporting all those who are sincerely works for ending of wars and hostilities. He said that Pakistan’s parliament through a unanimous resolution had backed negotiated resolution to Afghanistan problem and reconciliation. He making attentive Pakistan, US and Taliban, said in clear words, “without Afghanistan no one could get a durable solution to conflict but in fact such a move-ignoring Afghanistan government-a genuine representative of Afghan nation, would be meat fuelling of war flames in that country. He urged Pakistan, US and Taliban to realize participation of Afghanistan government in negotiation otherwise all such efforts wouldn’t yield outcomes.

Asfandyar Wali Khan hinted plunging of Afghanistan into irreversible crises if US go for an agreement with Taliban without taking Afghanistan government into consent. In such a situation, he said that Daesh could emerge another threat to peace, lives and properties of innocent people in Afghanistan as well as in other parts of the region. He suggested re-visiting of such steps otherwise there will be Syria like situation in Afghanistan. He assured the delegates on behalf of ANP, striving for peace in Afghanistan and working for further improvement in bilateral relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
