AT-KABUL: A three-day anti-polio campaign started in the northwestern Faryab province the other day with the aim to eradicate the crippling disease in the country.
Around 340,000 children up to the age of five years will be administered polio drops during the campaign.
The campaign was conducted just few days after that a new case of polio was registered in Qaisar district of the province. According to reports a two-year old child in the district was confirmed to have polio virus.
The acting head of the Faryab public health directorate, Muhammad Maroof Samar, during inauguration of the campaign urged people to cooperate with vaccinators to administer the anti-polio drops to their children.
He hoped that the campaign will save other children in the province from the crippling disease.
It is worth mentioning that Afghanistan and Pakistan are the only countries where the polio virus still remains endemic.
