Political party asks ‘lawful’ reforms in electoral bodies

By Farhad Naibkhel-KABUL: The Republican Party of Afghanistan (RPoA) on Monday urged the government to bring urgent reforms in the electoral bodies.

“Electoral bodies have played with the people’s votes and are not trustable commissions anymore. Thus, the government has to bring reforms in the commissions as soon as possible,” said a senior member of the party Assadullah Salehi.

“Election is a national process that belongs to the whole nation. Thus, people would not allow any team to lead election based on their personal interest.”

This is the last warning for political figures to stop gambling with the people’s fate and bring reforms based on law and regulation in order to institutionalize democracy in the country, he added.

He stated that negative steps in the reform process would be never acceptable for people and parties and would have destructive outcomes.

“The government must fulfill its responsibilities and run a free and fair election away of any kinds of fraud throughout the country,” he asserted.

Pointing to the peace process, Salehi said that each progress and deal in the process must be shared with the people.

“We want a transparent and openly peace with dissidents by considering people, parties and civil society’s views.”
