Residents of Marawara back govt for peace, security

AT-KABUL: People of Marawar district of Kunar pledged their support to Afghan government in order to have durable peace and stability in the country.

According to a press statement issued here by the Kunar governor’s office on Wednesday, the people of Marawar district in a gathering backed the government’s policy on peace and vowed support.

Religious scholars, tribal elders, civil society activists, lawmakers and youth participated in the gathering. The provincial governor, Waheedullah Kalimzai, was also present on the occasion. Residents of the district said that they would continue to support the government in order to bring durable peace and stability.

They also expressed their concerns over increasing insecurity. Terming insecurity a major threat to stability and peace, the speakers urged the government to take priority based measures to improve law and order situation.

They asked the relevant authorities to launch uplift schemes including construction of irrigation canal and roads in the district.

Waheedullah Kalimzai said that peaceful and stable Afghanistan was a long-held dream of Afghans. He said that those who were creating challenges in this aspect were foreign agents.

The governor promised to launch the developmental projects, demanded by residents of the district. He urged public to support the government in bringing security and stability.
