AT-KABUL: After deteriorating security situation on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway, the Afghan security forces has conducted an operation “Khanjar-II” in a bid to secure the busy highway for travelers, an official said.
In a media statement issued here on Tuesday, the 201st Selab Military Corps in the eastern zone said that operation was launched in the Wresham Tangi and Mahipar areas, east of Kabul. It also added that 201st Military Corps Forces, Afghan National Police (ANP) and the National Directorate of Security (NDS) had been engaged in the operation to secure the highway.
Goga Mandi, Khundi, Dagari and Shpoli are the four villages that are located between Mahipar and Sarobi districts were cleared from rebels on the first day of the operation, the statement said.
It is worth mentioning that some passengers were kidnapped on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway. They were released after paying ransom.
The Afghan security forces repeatedly came under attack by the militants on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway.
