KABUL: The Afghan security service (NDS) raided Taliban hideouts in southern Logar province as part of counterterrorism operation there to curb the militantmovement, officials said on Monday.
The National Security Directorate said its operatives in a joint operation with the police raided several hideouts of the extremist Taliban in Khosi district, Logar’s capital city, Pol-e-Alam,and along the Kabul-Logar highway.
The raids targeted the notorious militant commanders including Omary, Ahmadyar, Kochi and Qari Saffiullah who launched their campaign of terror in the areas.
The security service said its forces recovered firearms and ammunition in the raids. “Seven RPG7 and 33bullet rounds, six improvised explosive devices and a heavy machinegun with 200 bullet rounds were captured during the operations,”said the NDS in a statement.
Similarly, one type of Ak47, five missiles, a remotecontrol device, and 570 kg explosives along with some communication devices were seized. The rebels had been using the firearms to attack military convoys along Logar-Kabul highway.
