Security forces killed dozens of militants in fresh raids

KABUL: At least 59 militants have been killed and 40 others received injures in multiple extensive military crackdowns conducted by the Afghan security forces across the country within past 24 hours, security officials said Wednesday.

Ministry of Defense in a statement said that Afghan National Army (ANA) in collaboration with Afghan National Police (ANP) and National Directorate of Security (NDS) personal conducted joint operations against insurgents in different area of Faryab, Helmand, Zabul, Urzgan, Paktia, Ghazni, Herat, Balkh, Sar-e-Pul, Badakhshan and Takhar provinces, in which 59 militants killed and 40 others wounded.

Afghan forces succeeded to arrest five insurgents and handed them over relevant judicial organs for further inquiry.

Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF) shelled and bombed the enemies’ positions and sanctuaries by artilleries and air forces.

During these operations, 25 Taliban fighters including five commanders identified as Mullah Mohammad, Abdulla, Hamidullah, Jundullah and Mullah Samad and 35 others including Mullah Basir a commander of Taliban were wounded in Bilchragh district—14 militants killed, one wounded, a mine cache and one strongholds of the enemy with 200kg opium and 15kg heroin terminated in Sangeen and Marja districts of Helmand and 12 militants killed in Shinkai district of Zabul province.        

Similarly, three insurgents killed in Dand Patan district of Pakia, three rebels killed and four others wounded in Khas Urzgan and Chinarto district of Urzgan—two militants killed in center of Ghazni—five insurgents arrested, nine motorbikes and nine rounds of mine destroyed in Poshtrod district of Farah province.  

In past 24 hours, 17 planed clearing operations, and 67 Special Forces operations conducted in different provinces; also, Air Forces conducted 126 aerial operations supporting Afghan National Army, including 17 strikes on enemy’s sanctuaries.

ANA also discovered and confiscated weapons and ammunition in the operations as well.
