Sherpao for inclusion of Afghanistan in Moscow consultation process

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL:  Leader of the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP), a political party of neo-nationalists based in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, stressed on participation of Afghanistan in Moscow trilateral consultation process on Afghan conflict and peace process.

In a statement, Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said that the Moscow trilateral consultation process would not be productive without participation of Afghanistan.

Backing reaction of the Afghan government over its non-inclusion in the Russia-hosted talks, Sherpao said the objection of Afghanistan was justified and, therefore, the group should be extended.

He said that the effective participation of Afghanistan would be instrumental in finding solutions to the Afghan conflict.

Expressing concerns over rise of Daesh, aka the Islamic State, in Afghanistan, he said the regional countries should support Kabul to deal with the notorious terrorist group and help improve security situation in the war-hit country.

Chairman of the QWP, said the trilateral moot, comprising Russia, China and Pakistan, was a good move to develop strategy for Afghanistan.

He said that the talks in Moscow would help in resolving the Afghan conflict. Sherpao stressed that durable peace and stability in Afghanistan is essential for regional security.

Sherpao said that durable peace was imperative for economic prosperity and development of the region.

Reacting to the trilateral meeting in Moscow on Afghanistan, the spokesman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ahmad Shekib Mostaghni, on Monday said the moot would not yield the desired results.

“Such meetings without the presence of Afghan officials will not represent a real picture of the situation of Afghanistan in the meeting. Such meetings, even if having good motives, will raise serious questions among the Afghans regarding its objectives,” Khaama Press quoted the spokesman.

Members of the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House) of parliament strongly condemned the trilateral meeting without participation of Afghanistan. Lawmakers asked the government to take action against Moscow and address the issue through diplomatic channels.

The legislators expressed deepest concern over growing ties between Moscow and the Taliban and the trilateral meeting hosted by Moscow on 27th December. “Hosting a meeting by Moscow with the participant of Pakistan and China is a matter of concern, government of Afghanistan should not remain silent,” said speaker of the Wolesi Jirga, Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi.

Kubra Mustafawi, a member of the Wolesi Jirga, said that such meeting without presence of Afghanistan is a sign of interference of regional countries in Afghan affairs. Recalling the Soviet invasion in 1979, she said that millions of Afghans were killed and wounded when the Russian troops invaded Afghanistan.
