AT-KABUL: Six policemen died in clashes between Afghan security forces and militants in southern Kandahar province.
Zia Durani, spokesman for Kandahar police, confirmed the incident and said that police were patrolling Band-e-Timor area of Maiwand district, when they came under attack from Taliban militants killing six policemen.
He said that security forces have also inflected casualties on militants, though he didn’t provid figures. “Following the attack, security forces launched a clearance operation in the area. However, Taliban had planted bombs in the area, which compelled Afghan forces to retreat,” he added.
He said that security forces have also destroyed a cache of weapons and landmines during the operation. Durani said that security forces have also seized a car and two motorcycles of the militants.
