AT-KABUL: At least 15 Taliban fighters, suspected of planning and carrying out suicide attacks, have been detained by Afghan security forces in southern Kandahar province, an official source said on Saturday.
The 15 fighters included would-be suicide bombers, attack planners and bomb-makers who were working in three separate groups in Kandahar province, the National Directorate of Security (NDS) said in a statement.
“NDS personnel have busted three terrorist groups consisted of 15 persons, who had plans to carry out suicide attacks and plant bombs to inflict casualties on innocent people of Kandahar,” the NDS press office in Kabul said.
Kandahar is among relatively calm provinces of the country and Taliban have been weakened in recent years and pushed to remote areas of the province. But Taliban have been trying to show their presence by launching suicide attacks and planting bombs that most of the time cause civilian casualties.
