Taliban attack foreign tourists in Herat

AT-KABUL: Taliban militants attacked a tourists’ convoy in Chesht district of western Herat province, wounding seven tourists on Thursday before noon, said officials.

Provincial Governor’s spokesman Jailani Farhad said that the tourists’ convoy was on the way from Chesht district to Herat City when came under attack.

He said that seven tourists including foreigners were injured in the incident, adding that Afghan security forces shortly after the incident started operation, in which Taliban attackers suffered casualties.

The tourists’ team included eleven people including foreigners, he added.

He said that it is too early to tell about nationality of the tourists.

Army’s spokesman in western Herat province, Najibullah Najibi, said that six women were among the tourists and they had come from Bamyan to the province of Herat.

He hinted that the tourists might be from Germany or the United States.
