AT-KABUL: Taliban militants have once again launched heavy attacks on Afghanistan northern Kunduz city early on Monday and fierce fighting has been continuing in outskirts of the city, officials confirmed.
“Taliban fighters attacked the city from four directions early in the morning and intense fighting still (Monday morning) continue” Mahfuzullah Akbary, spokesman for the 888th Spinzar Police Zone told Afghanistan Times.
“Our troops strongly defend the city, the situation was worrying in the night but in the morning the situation back come under control of the security forces who are trying to push Taliban back from the areas, as Taliban took positions in civilian houses” the official said, adding the clearance operation will take time in order to prevent civilian casualties.
“We are not worried about the situation, as we have enough troops in Kunduz, all troops now engaged in counter-attack” he said.
Some highways, leading to the city, are closed and people are not more seem on the streets and most of the shops are closed in the city he said.
Taliban in a statement claimed their fighters are closing on the city and imposed casualties on security forces.
