Taliban overrun district in Farah

AT-KABUL: After a massive coordinated attack, Taliban militants have captured Anardara district of western Farah province on Sunday night.

Militants stormed and overrun Anardara district headquarters in Farah province late Sunday night, said Farah gubernatorial spokesperson Naser Mehri.

Clashes are still going on in the district and the Taliban are attacking the Police Chief and Security Department of the district. He said that Afghan forces started ground and air attacks on Taliban to take back the control of the fallen district compound.

On the other hand Deputy Spokesman for Ministry of Interior (MoI) Nasrat Rahimi confirmed retreat of Afghan forces late Sunday night after attack of Taliban.

He rejected fall down of the district completely to Taliban and called the reports in the aspect baseless. Currently clashes going on in the district between Afghan forces and Taliban. 14 Taliban fighters have been killed and 23 others wounded and their dead bodies were seen in the site.

The Taliban have also confirmed to have overrun and captured Anardara district after heavy clashes.
