AT-KABUL: The increased growth of the Daesh insurgency in Kunar province has infuriated people in the eastern province of Kunar, bordering Pakistan’s tribal belt.
The provincial council says that the Daesh terrorist group has an increasing presence in Kunar, warning that a “big tragedy” would take place if the government remains silent.
The council says that Daesh flag is waving in some districts. “Daesh has a center here. It is recruiting the youth. It has forces in Nari, Ghazi Abad, Shigal and Dangam districts. The Daesh flag is waving in Dewgol, Pech and Chapa Dara districts,” Din Mohammad Sapai, a member of the provincial council said.
The statements follow a UN report that had said that Daesh has expanded activities from Nangarhar in the previous year to seven more provinces now. It said that Daesh and Taliban attacks were doubled compared to last year.
Russian foreign minister has repeatedly said about the expansion of Daesh presence in Afghanistan. In his recent meeting with Pakistani foreign minister, he said that the presence of Daesh in Afghanistan was dangerous.
But officials in Kunar said that the US drone attacks against the hideouts of Daesh terrorists have killed significant numbers of them.
Defense ministry also says that Daesh activities have decreased in Afghanistan, with Dawlat Waziri, spokesman for the ministry saying that if Daesh terrorists want to resume activities in Kunar, they would be repressed by the security forces.
“Security forces not only in Kunar, but in the entire country are able to repress terrorists. In Kunar, if the group plans to establish a center, I assure they would be eliminated,” Waziri said.
