AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: Two de-miners were gunned down in an attack carried by unknown gunmen in Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, local officials said on Tuesday.
The gun assault took place at a time when the de-miners were busy in Haji Azizullah Camp area in the district to clear the landmines.
The unidentified gunmen had opened fire on them during work time, an official said.
Confirming the incident, provincial spokesperson, Samim Khpalwak said that de-miners succumbed to their injuries. Security forces are making efforts to arrest those involved in the attack, Khpalwak said. However, the assailants managed to escape after the attack. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
This is worth mentioning that in January, the Taliban insurgents in an attack killed four de-miners in southern Helmand province. The Taliban militants attacked the de-miners in Greshk district of the province while the de-miners were at work.
