AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has pledged to equip Afghan security forces with modern weapons.
This comes at a time that the Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum during an official trip to the UAE has recently urged the country to support Afghan forces.
Sultan Faizi, media advisor to Dostum, told Azadi Radio that the UAE has created a special committee in this regard. “This was a fruitful trip, for the UAE officials pledged to support Afghan security forces,” he said, adding that a representative of the country will pay a visit to Afghanistan soon.
Faizi said that despite equipping security forces, the UAE has also pledged to support Afghanistan in diverse fields including education, healthcare, trade and repatriation of refugees. “The UAE vowed to invest in mining sector of Afghanistan,” he added.
It is worth mentioning the UAE has recently deported some 600 Afghan workers and traders.
Zalmai Wardak, a political analyst, believes that the UAE’s support is of great importance for Afghanistan, as it was not involved in the proxy wars.
