UAE to aid six billion dollars for Afghan infrastructure projects

AT-KABUL: The United Arab Emirates has promised to donate six billion dollars for the infrastructure projects in Afghanistan, a government official said Tuesday.

“About $5-6 billion will be donated by the United Arab Emirates, all in infrastructure projects,” Ali Ahmad Osmani, minister of water and energy told reporters, adding that the issue would be finalized in an economic conference planned to be held next month in Dubai.

“This enables us to build and rebuild power producing projects,” Osmani said.

According to Osmani, the power generated in Afghanistan could be exported to neighboring countries like Pakistan and India.

This comes, as efforts are underway to boost the domestic income of the country, specifically through investments on natural resources of Afghanistan.

Earlier the government signed over 80 mining contracts with private sector in a bid to boost the extraction of mines and prevent illegal extraction of the mining.
