Violence against women: Arezo heals after two years of medical treatment

AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: After failed attempt of suicide, the 14-year-old girl Arezo had successfully undergone four surgical operations and was in stable condition, doctor said on Wednesday.

“Arezo broke her bones and was at critical condition when brought to the hospital,” Dr. Mohammad Nasir Habib said. It took two years for her to heal the wounds, he said.

Habib said that Arezo was in serious health condition as doctors were not sure about her survival. He also said that her first operation took four hours, terming it successful.

She attempted suicide by jumping from building because her parents forced her to marry an old man in western Herat province, doctors said.

“Don’t let violence to be heavy over love toward your children,” Arezo asked her parents. She also said that she wanted to go to school as soon as possible.

She said that parents should not take their children as a burden rather replace violence with love, definitely love would yield positive change in the family.

Arezo’s mother said that poverty is the sole obstacle that deprived her daughter of education.

While tears rolling down on her check, Arezo’s mother said that it has been a glad tiding for her when Arezo become healthy and her wounds healed. She also lauded the efforts of doctors who gave her daughter’s a new life after tireless efforts.

It’s worth mentioning that Herat is a dangerous province for women to live as 448 cases of violence against women had been registered with 34 women lost their lives during the past nine months, provincial officials said.
