Voter registration in Kandahar in limbo amid technical deficiencies

AT News Report-KABUL: The voter registration papers have been finished in 13 registration centers in the southern province of Kandahar.

The provincial office of the election commission said Saturday that the papers finished last week and they are waiting for fresh papers from the capital that have not yet arrived.
Separately, residents of Kandahar warned that most of them would be deprived from taking part in the election if extra papers would not be sent.
Kandahar city is one of five biggest cities of the country, but people lack of getting chance to vote because of the lack of voter registration papers.
“The voter registration papers have finished in the Maiwand district and no additional papers have been sent. People are waiting to register for the election, and we do not have papers for them,” said Hashem Dorrani, head of provincial office of the election commission.
He said that more than 1,000 people had registered in the past 15 days in the districts of Shorabak, Ghorak, Maaroof and Nesh, but registration process was stopped as most of people showed less interest in registering.
“We have called our employees back from Shorabak, Nesh, Ghorak and Maaroof districts because of the high security threat.”
