AT-KABUL: Tribal elders from Zabul province in gathering blamed the government of turning blind eye towards the challenges faced by people of the province.
Hundreds of tribal elders gathered in Qalat, the capital city of the province, to urge the government to pay more attention to the province.
Hamidullah Tokhi, a lawmaker from the province, said that the government has long neglected the province. He also blamed the tribal elders in the province for not putting pressure on the central government to work for uplift of the province.
Tokhi also called on tribal elders and people of Zabul province get united and fight for their rights.
Daud Gulzad, a member of Zabul provincial council, said that the province was one of the most underdeveloped provinces of the country. “We urged the government several times in the past to establish a university in the province, however, it is yet to take our demand seriously,” the elders added.
They termed education as key to durable peace in Afghanistan and said that most of schools in the province were closed down by the Taliban.
