Kabul: At least 13 civilians were killed when armed masked men opened fire on a civilian bus on Kabul-Kandahar highway on Tuesday morning, official said.
Provincial Governor’s spokesperson, Attaullah Khogyani, said the incident took place at midnight around 1:30am in Said Abad district of central Maidan Wardak province. “A woman is among 13 passengers killed in the attack and two others were injured” Spokesman said.
He said the unknown masked armed men, wearing black cloths, first stopped the bus and two trucks on Kabul-Kandahar Highway and then shot dead the civilians and escaped from the area. He said police were investigating the incident and no one was detained yet.
Taliban in a statement denied their fighters were involved in the attack and vowed to arrest and punish the perpetrators. “We will punish those who were involved in the attack, civilians are not our target” Taliban’s spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said.
