140 Taliban rebels killed in latest raids

KABUL: At least 140 Taliban insurgents were killed and 75 others wounded during latest military crackdowns conducted by the Afghan security forces in different provinces in the past 24 hours, defense authorities said Monday.

The Afghan security forces supported by the Afghan Air Forces have conducted operations and counter attacks against Taliban militants in Nangarhar, Zabul, Kandahar, Herat, Badghis, Balkh, Faryab, Jawzjan, Sar-e Pul, Helmand, Baghlan, Kapisa and Kabul provinces, in which 140 Taliban insurgents were killed and 75 others wounded, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

121 rounds of mines and IEDs that were planted by the Taliban insurgents to target civilians and security forces were also discovered and defused, the statement added.

Huge amount of weapons and ammunition of the enemy were destroyed, the statement added.
