AT-KABUL: At least 16 civilians were killed and five others were injured when their vehicle they were travelling in hit a landmine in Marjah district of southern Helmand province, the governor’s spokesman said.
Helmand Governor spokesman, Omar Zwak, told Afghanistan Times that the incident took place in Trikh Nawar village of Marjah district on Saturday evening. Six women and some children were among the killed passengers. Injured were rushed to a nearby hospital by security forces, he added.
He said the passenger vehicle was heading to Marjah district from Lashkargah, the provincial capital.
The Taliban usually place landmines to hit security forces that sometimes resulted in deadly incidents in which innocent civilians lose their lives.
