19 hostages freed from Daesh captivity in Nangarhar

AT-KABUL: Afghan forces succeeded to free 19 civilian hostages from Daesh also known as Islamic state of Iraq and Syria terrorist group captivity during an operation in eastern Nangarhar province, security officials said Monday.

“These civilians had been taken hostage during recent conflicts by Daesh fighters in the Pachiragam district, who all were freed by Afghan forces through conducting an operation yesterday,” said provincial police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashreqiwal.

He said that children were also among the hostages.

Clearance operations are going on in the districts and most of the districts have been so far cleared from Daesh terrorists, he added.

Meanwhile, the ministry of interior said airstrikes targeted a Daesh hideout in Achin district in which at least 11 Daesh terrorists were killed.

“Some amount of light and heavy rounds of ammunition destroyed during the operation” the ministry added.

Alleged Daesh fighters massacred 33 civilians last week after taking them hostage in western Ghor province, officials confirmed.
