2 Radio Stationed Shut, Employees Detained in Kandahar

KABUL: The Islamic Emirate has closed two famous radio stations in the southern province of Kandahar, several media watchdogs and media organizations said.

Local Officials have yet to provide any comment in this regard as of now.

The radio stations are named as Millat Ghag and Sangey. The employees of the radio stations were also detained, reports said.  

“They have taken away six employees from four radio stations and have warned employees of other radio stations,” Javid Ahmad Tanvir, head of Kandahar Press Club said.

However, three of the detained media workers were released on Monday evening.

All activities at the Millat Ghag radio station were halted after the was closed, according to the employees of the radio stations.

“Forces from the Kandahar intelligence department came to our office, stopped our activities and took away three of our employees,” Bismillah Watandost, head of the radio station said.

The media watchdogs have repeatedly voiced concerns over the status of Afghan media community, calling on the Islamic Emirate to address the problems lay ahead of the media in Afghanistan.

According to available numbers, over 70 of the media organizations have halted their operations since the Islamic Emirate swept into power.
