AT Monitoring Desk-KABUL: At least 30 Taliban militants have been killed during a military operation of Afghan security forces in Khwaja Ghar district of northern Takhar province.
This comes at a time that the Taliban militants captured Darqad district of the province recently. Darqad was the first district of the province to fall to the Taliban militants.
Sunatullah Temor, spokesman for Takhar governor office, told Azadi Radio that security forces are soon to conduct a large –scale operation to retake control of the district. “After clearing Khwaja Bahauddin district, security forces will conduct a military offensive against militants in Darqad,” he added.
“Fresh units of security troops have been deployed to Khwaja Bahauddin,” he added.
Temor said that Darqad is surrounded by Oxus River from three sides, thus the only for retaking the district is launching airstrikes.
He said that fighting between the Taliban militants and Afghan forces is still ongoing in Khwaja Ghar district of the province.
Khwaja Ghar is a neighboring district of Dasht-e-Archi district of Kunduz province.
