More than 33 arrests, 32,000 pounds of drugs seized
AT-KABUL: More than 33 drug smugglers have been arrested and in excess of 32,500 pounds of drugs have been seized all over the country over past week, officials said Tuesday.
In a major drug bust, over 33 suspects were apprehended by Counter Narcotics Police in several provincial regions, said Court of Criminal Justice Task Force in a statement.
Nine people were arrested while attempting to smuggle drugs from Hamid Karzai International Airport. They were carrying heroin inside their abdomens and inside small boxes to smuggle to India. Investigation on is going on over the dossier of the all indicts; and after examining evidences and documentations from both sides, CJTF will convict the suspects, said the statement.
As many as 24 drug smugglers were arrested from Kabul, Helmand, Nangarhar, Baghlan and Kandahar provinces.
A total of 39 kg heroin, over 2,540 kg morphine, 5,690 kg opium, 1,231 kg chemical drugs, 54 g crystal and 5,258 K tablets have been seized from suspects.
All drug traffickers would have the right for defense attorneys for their legal defense and will be convicted after separate judicial trials based on the evidence brought before the court and the Counter Narcotics law of Afghanistan.
On the other hand 14 drug traffickers in connecting to 14 different cases were convicted to prison from six months to 16 years by the primary and appeal court of CJTF in the past one week.
